Blue and Wolfshead Tour of Duty for X-Wing CD

Blue and Wolfshead Squadron Tour of Duty

Intro:

It is the dawn of a new era; the Emperor is dead, destroyed together with his Death Star above the sanctuary moon of Endor. The War is however not yet over. While the Imperial Navy has suffered enormous losses, it is far from being defeated. On Coruscant the power struggle is in full progress to decide who shall take Emperor Palpatines now vacant place.

Although that battle is fierce, everyone knows that the real power struggle is taking place in the sky above them, as the remainder of the Imperial Navy is regrouping while the Rebel Alliance ships constantly harass them. Both Navies know that winning even the smallest skirmish may shift the advantage to either side.

The Rebels, still outnumbered but growing each day, have recently inflicted serious damage to the Imperial war machine by destroying one of the few TIE Avenger production plants left. The Alliance Navy, desperately short of starships, still relies heavily on the performance of its individual starfighter squadrons.

While the front-line squadrons are harassing the main Imperial fleet, support squadrons like Blue and the recently formed Wolfshead squadron are assuming the role of 'fire fighters', guarding the flanks of newly reclaimed Alliance space. Little do they know that the Empire has already developed a new weapon, ready to send in to the war zone...

Somewhere in Space:

"Mayday, mayday, mayday!!! This is Blue Flight 2, Blue Flight 2 requesting assistance! Is anyone out there??? We're under attack by Imperial Gunboats. Two of my X-Wings have already been disabled!! Mayday. Anyone, answer, please!"

"Blue Flight 2, this is Wolfshead 15, go ahead", Sparks replied over the A-Wing's comm link.

A weak and distorted reply was trying to get through but the interference was just too great. "Wolfshead 1..." ....ssss.... "thi..." ...ssss...."we'r...." crackle........

"Blue Flight 2, Blue Flight 2, this is Wolfshead 15, do you copy?"

Nothing but silence came back over the radio. "Blue Flight 2, do you copy, over?"

Nothing.

A transmission from the WolfsDen broke that silence. "Wolfshead 15 this is the WolfsDen. We just picked up a distress call from Blue Fight 2. Did you get any of the message?"

"I got the initial call, but only static afterwards."

"Copy that Wolfhead 15. Standby, we've located where the transmission originated from and are downloading jump coordinates now. Be prepared to hyper-out. We are launching Wolfshead 10, and you and Solo are to get to the area ASAP and report back all information. Protect Fight 2 if they're under attack by those Gunboats. Looks like this area we're in isn't so quiet after all."

"Roger, WolfsDen. Just another day on the farm."

Meanwhile, aboard the ASD HappyJack:

Klaxons sounded loud and long onboard the HappyJack, Blue Squadron's mothership. "All pilots to the ready room, all pilots to the ready room. This is not a drill.", came blasting over the p.a.

Everyone was scrambling to their duty stations, getting ready for whatever was about outside the ship.

Groznik, Blue Squadron Leader, came out of the radio room with a message in hand, barely missing another crew member as he ran to get to his assigned station. "Sorry, sir.", came the startled cry from the crewmember.

"Carry on, on the double." was the frantic response. Fortunately for everyone having a universal translating device, no one had heard the loud roar that Wookies make when they get startled. Something like the tornado wind scream and a Banshee wail at the same time, all rolled into one sound. And you never want to startle a Wookie. Ever.

The crewman continued his hurried pace down the corridor, glancing back over his shoulder at the Wookie, nearly colliding with another crew member.

But there was no time to spare, and Groz was already heading down another passageway toward the pilots ready room.

Entering the room, all the pilots that had made it there snapped to attention, but there was little time for formalities. "Listen up! One of our X-Wing patrols has fallen under attack by the Imperials. It appears they have been disabled, and not destroyed! I don't know what the Empire is up to this time, but A-Wings from Wolfshead squadron have been sent in to investigate. It's going to take us some time to get to that location, so I want CorranBoat, Wedge, and Sabrewolf to man their X-Wings now. Once we leave hyperspace, launch immediately from the hanger. We'll be sending rescue craft out right behind you. Now, move it!"

Welcome to a holiday special treat!

The first ever joint Wolfshead-Blue Squadron TOD for X-Wing CD. Forget the wife, forget the girlfriends, forget the boyfriends, forget about Bill, and forget about the stockings by the fireplace! Play the missions!

Missions will be available from this place or from the Blue Squadron web site, as well as in the StarWars Lib in the Flight Combat Simulations area on CompuServe.

To play the Wolfshead missions as a TOD, download Whtod*.zip. Download the other file for the Blue TOD. The corresponding mission for the alternate Squadron is available as a bonus mission. Sound files are also planned as a separate add-on at a later time.

You also will need a copy of XCDR, which is available from this page as well. Enjoy the Holidays!

All missions were created by Charbel "Solo" Tengroth, Wolfshead 10 while the briefings were done by Robert "Sparks" Delinsky, Wolfshead 15, and tested by both. The TOD logo was created by Arachnoid, Wolfshead 9. Hope you enjoy the missions as much as we had in making them.

Feedback, good or bad, greatly appreciated.
